Here are the top stories today in Bedford:
- Bed Bath and Beyond filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Sunday. The home goods retailer said it will "close all stores," but no immediate closing dates are set for its Portsmouth, Bedford, Concord and Nashua locations. As the company "winds down," it's looking for a buyer "with a glimmer of hope they could remain in business." CNN reported that BB&B's 20% off coupons will be good through Tuesday. (Seacoast Current)
- Join in "a Planting Party for kids of all ages on May 1 from 3:45-4:30 p.m."at The Educational Farm at Joppa Hill. Children of all ages are invited to plant a bean seed and participate in bean-themed arts and crafts! The event includes an outside walk through the farm gardens. - A motorcyclist died in a crash with a pick-up truck Saturday afternoon at Back River Road near the Merrimack-Bedford town line. Investigators were "on the scene for hours" and the area was closed until 6 p.m. Neighbors living nearby told News 9 the crash happened at a sharp turn in the road and "they have seen several accidents in the area." (WMUR Manchester)
- Spring flowers need the rain, but some areas saw flooding yesterday as downpours continued throughout the day. A flood advisory for Bedford was extended through 7 p.m. on Sunday with "mild flooding" possible in low-lying areas and from swelling streams. The National Weather Service warned not to attempt to drive through flooded areas or roads. The advisory said campers and hikers should be mindful where streams, rivers and creeks overflow during heavy rains and to avoid them, as they can "quickly become deadly." Forecasters say showers are expected Monday, with cool temperatures and a high of 52. Tuesday will be milder with sun returning and a high of 56. (Manchester Ink Link)
