Guess who's back, back again?: Eminem Returns With 'Houdini' Featuring Pete Davidson, Snoop Dogg, Shane Gillis, and Others in Electrifying Superhero Styled Video (2024)

Known as one of the greatest rappers of all time, Eminem, real name Marshall Bruce Mathers III, is regarded as a rapper who managed to break the racial barriers to the acceptance of white rappers in the industry. He is recognized for representing the angst of the American underclass and is one of the most influential artists in the world. The artist is popularly called the ‘Rap God!’

With a worldwide sale of nearly 220 million records, he is among the best-selling artists of all time. Back in 2022, the rapper was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The artist has recently released his first single from his upcoming twelfth studio album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce).

Eminem drops a star-studded video for the first single, Houdini, from The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)

Back in March, Dr. Dre appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where he confirmed that Eminem is working on his next studio album and will be releasing it soon. The announcement filled Eminem’s fans with excitement and anticipation, and on May 28, 2024, the artist posted a joint video with magician David Blaine on his social media.

In the video, the Rap God asks Blaine for some help with a magic trick, to which the latter replies by eating a glass of wine. Eminem introduces the song Houdini by playing a short instrumental snippet. On May 31, 2024, the official music video for Houdini was released, featuring Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Pete Davidson, Shane Gillis, and more.

The new single’s video opens with his iconic line, ‘Guess who’s back, back again/ Shady’s back, tell a friend.’ The video, according to THR, pays direct homage to his Without Me music videos, as just like in both videos, he’s in bed with two women, when Dre calls him up with an emergency for Rapboy. In Houdini, a 2002 bleach-blond Slim Shady is seen stepping through a portal in 2024 and walking around the city, shocked by the state of modern technology.

The artist is seen donning his Rapboy costume and joining Dre in a race to find a younger version of himself before he wreaks havoc on their city and probably gets the present-day Slim Shady canceled. Both versions of Eminem confront one another for an epic fight, and the result is that they are now one. The present-day Marshall Mathers appears with bleach-blond hair after the battle.

Apart from the celebrities that appeared in the video, the artist decided to name-drop a few more celebrities in his first single from the upcoming album. According to Billboard reports, R. Kelly, Paul Rosenberg, Jimmy Iovine, RuPaul, Dr. Dre, Sherri Papini, and Harry Houdini were named in the song. His children appear in the music video, too.

Eminem drops references to the Megan Thee Stallion shooting incident with Tory Lanez

The artist is known for being unhinged with his lyrics, and Houdini proves once again why he is known to be one of the greatest rappers worldwide. Not much is known about his upcoming album, but his recent release, Houdini, definitely makes a strong case for the album being one of the greatest.

In Houdini, Marshall Mathers included references to the infamous Megan Thee Stallion and Tory Lanez shooting incident as he sings, ‘If I was to ask for Megan Thee Stallion if she would collab with me/ Would I really have shot at a feat? I don’t know, but I’m glad to be back.’

Todayreported that the artist had announced The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce) in April with a Detroit Murder Files crime show trailer during the NFL Draft. The project suggests the death of artist’s longtime alter ego, and just a few weeks ago, the Detroit Free Press ran a fake obituary. He bid adieu to Slim Shady.
