"APGAR SCORE; A VITAL GLIMPSE INTO NEWBORN WELL- BEING". The Apgar score is a standardized method used to assess the well-being of a newborn at 1 and 5 minutes after birth. The 1-minute score determines how well the baby tolerated the birthing process while the 5-minute score assesses how well the baby is doing outside the mother's womb. It was introduced by Virginia Apgar in 1952. A score of 7 to 10 after five minutes is considered reassuring. A score of 4 to 6 is considered moderately abnormal. A score of 0 to 3 is concerning and abnormal. Below are the components and calculation of the APGAR Score;💥 A- APPEARANCE (SKIN COLOR)This is an evaluation of the baby’s skin color. The baby's skin color is scored as follows; If the skin color is pale blue, the infant scores 0 for color. If the body is pink and the extremities are blue, the infant scores 1 for color. If the entire body is pink, the infant scores 2 for color.💥 P – PULSE (HEART RATE)During this evaluation, the baby’s heart rate is being measured with a stethoscope and a score is given. An absent heart rate scores 0 points. A slow heart rate of less than 100 beats per minute (bpm) scores 1 point. A fast heart rate of more than 100 bpm is considered normal and scores 2 points.💥 G – GRIMACE (REFLEX IRRITABILITY/RESPONSE) The baby is being checked for a response to stimulus at this point. This can be done with a mild pinch. It is calculated as follows; If there is no reaction, the infant scores 0 for reflex irritability. If there is grimacing, the infant scores 1 for reflex irritability. If there is grimacing and a cough, sneeze, or vigorous cry, the infant scores 2 for reflex irritability.💥 A – ACTIVITY (MUSCLE TONE) During this evaluation, the infant's muscle tone or movement is assessed. It is calculated as follows; If the muscle tone is loose and floppy without activity, the score for muscle tone is 0.If the infant demonstrates some tone and flexion, the score for muscle tone is 1.If the infant is in active motion with a flexed muscle tone that resists extension, the score for muscle tone is 2.💥 R – RESPIRATION (BREATHING ABILITY) During this step, the baby's respiratory rate or breathing effort is evaluated and calculated as follows; If the infant is not breathing, the respiratory score is 0.If respirations are slow and irregular, weak or gasping, the respiratory score is 1.If the infant is crying vigorously, the respiratory score is 2. Please note that a lower APGAR Score will require medical interventions such as suctioning of the airway, administration of oxygen and physical stimulation. Winter baby skin care ~ need to pay attention to these points1-Keep your skin cleanBaby's head, ear roots, neck, and small nose and other parts often secrete sebum, if not cleaned up in time, a long time is very easy to accumulate scab, and then clean up will be very difficult, but also easy to cause damage to the skin.Babies usually need to be carefully cared for in every detail, and baby bathing is a very important daily care activity. After giving your baby a bath, you need to give your baby the details of body care:1. First wipe the small ear with a cotton swab to prevent the ear from getting wet and uncomfortable.2. Check the folds of the skin and gently wipe the water with a bath towel, but you can not wipe it repeatedly.3. In the case of suitable temperature, you can let the baby's little butt breathe and bask in the sun.4. Apply a moderate amount of butt cream to your butts.5. Finally put the baby on the diaper and put on the pajamas. A simple touch can be done at room temperature. The baby's epidermal keratinization layer is immature, the dermis is relatively thin, the defense ability is poor, and the skin is lack of elasticity, and it is easy to be damaged. For babies whose immune system is not complete, once the skin is damaged, it is very easy to get infected. Therefore, mothers should pay special attention to choosing materials with little friction and low skin damage for their babies, such as cotton clothing.Entering the winter, the baby's skin is easy to dry, at this time when the treasure mothers in the selection of diapers, the most should pay attention to is "cotton soft, gentle", such diapers can better care for the baby's skin. Lightweight and comfortable diapers can reduce the irritation of the baby's skin and reduce the breeding of red butts.I hope the above care guidelines will help all parents to keep their babies comfortable and healthy during the fall and winter season. Don't forget to give your baby more care and companionship in this special season, so that they can feel your love!

#babywipesWhat dry wipes are suitable for babies? Is it suitable for newborn babies to use cotton soft towels or dry wipes for newborns? What kind of soft cotton towels or dry wipes are suitable for babies? From what age can babies use cotton wipes or dry wipes for newborns?Using cotton wipes or dry wipes provides a gentler and softer way to wipe, which is more comfortable and safer than using ordinary paper towels or washcloths. However, it should be noted that different babies have different skin sensitivity and immunity, and have different adaptability to cotton soft towelsor dry wipes for newborns made of different materials, so they need to be carefully selected. For newborn babies, it is recommended to use a dry cotton cloth (or cotton gauze) to wipe gently. After your baby's skin has gradually stabilized, you can try using soft wipes specially designed for babies. These dry wipes for newborns usually contain mild ingredients and moisturizers to better protect your baby's skin.Dry wipes are usually suitable for babies, especially those with sensitive skin. For wet wipes, it is necessary to choose products that do not contain chemical ingredients such as alcohol, fragrances, and fluorescent agents. It is best to choose a brand with relevant certification to ensure that the product has high safety and applicability. As for when to start using dry wipes, it needs to be determined according to the baby's skin condition, but generally speaking, the baby's skin will have different degrees of peeling process within one to two weeks after birth, so the baby's skin needs to be adjusted accordingly. When the performance is relatively stable, you can consider trying to usedry wipes. For more details, pls visit: www.dxwipes.com

You may have heard about the so-called pregnancy glow, but not everyone has perfect skin during this hormone-infused stage of life. Breakouts and sensitivities are normal and common. Some women even experience a condition called melasma in pregnancy. While melasma isn’t harmful, it can cause aesthetic changes to your skin that you may find bothersome. It’s essentially a hyperpigmentation of the skin, and it often affects the complexion—which is why it’s been aptly nicknamed the mask of pregnancy. What causes melasma?Melasma may be triggered by hormonal changes during pregnancy, which stimulate a temporary increase in the amount of melanin your body produces. Melanin is the natural substance that gives color to hair, skin, and eyes.Sun exposure, stress, and some medications may play a role, too.Melasma is common during pregnancy, though the following people are more likely to develop the condition:Women with darker complexions (they're more likely to have melasma than women with lighter skin)Women with one or more blood relative who have or had melasma. Women between the ages of 20 and 40.All changes in skin pigmentation due to melasma usually disappear on their own after delivery, but you can do a few things to safely minimize darkened spots on your skin during pregnancy:💧Use sun protection. This is crucial because exposure to the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays triggers melasma and intensifies pigment changes. Use a broad-spectrum sunblock (a formula that protects against both UVA and UVB rays) with SPF 30 or higher every day, even when it's not sunny, and reapply often during the day if you're outside. 💧Don't wax. Using wax to remove hair can cause skin inflammation that worsens melasma, especially in areas of your body that are affected by pigmentation changes.💧Use hypoallergenic skin care products. Cleansers and face creams that irritate your skin may make melasma worse.💧Apply concealer. If the darkened spots bother you, cover them up by using makeup for now. Concealer with white and yellow undertones often helps, but ask makeup experts at your local store to find the right product for your skin type. If you’ve developed melasma in pregnancy, and it doesn’t fade fast enough for your liking after birth, we recommend consulting a dermatologist. They’ll likely recommend topical skin-lightening agents, along with more targeted treatments to help.www.pregnancynigeria.com

👩🦰 Many women notice changes to their hair, as well as their skin, around the time of the menopause. Ageing generally can lead to thinning of the hair, but loss of oestrogen around the time of menopause can also impede hair growth and cause shrinkage of hair follicles. Imbalances between oestrogen and testosterone can also affect hair loss, with the latter hormone becoming more dominant at menopause. Most of the hair loss associated with the menopause is diffuse, but it can be more pronounced at the crown or the sides of the head. Other factors that can cause hair loss include 🔹 iron deficiency, 🔹 a thyroid hormone imbalance, 🔹 conditions that affect the scalp itself, 🔹 recent illness and stress. In some cases it is useful to have a blood test to exclude these other causes, and maintaining a Ferritin level above 70ng/ml (a measure of long term iron stores) can help, even though it is considered to be 'normal' if it is above only 12ng/ml. Your doctor should examine your scalp, to look for any dermatological causes which could be treated, and refer you on to a specialist if necessary. This is particularly important if you have noticed that your hair is falling out in patches. Some medications, including synthetic hormones that are used for HRT or contraception, can cause hair loss and finding alternatives can help. Body identical progesterone tends to be the least likely to cause hair thinning. As well as using a suitable type of HRT (usually consisting of natural oestrogen and progesterone), there are other ways that you can try to reduce hair loss. A topical treatment called Minoxidil, which is available without a prescription, is licensed for female pattern hair loss, but must be used on an ongoing basis. Protecting the scalp from excessive heat due to using straighteners or hair dryers can help, as can a healthy diet, and some specialist clinics will offer laser therapy which is claimed to stimulate hair growth. Collagen supplements are also advertised to help with hair growth. Even without any treatment, menopausal hair loss usually improves with time. Please discuss any concerns with your doctor, especially if your scalp is red, itchy or painful, or if you are losing hair in patches or an unusual pattern.Get in touch with us today to book an appointment at oxfordmenopause.com or call our friendly team on 01235 634606.#menopause #menopausehealth #womenshealth #libido #hrt #hotflushes #hormones #periods #contraception #empoweringwomen #symptoms #migraine #hairloss

#Pregnant women need to take added precautions as the regular skincare routine might not fit well. You want to avoid some ingredients, but adding some might be beneficial.~ Skincare During Pregnancy – The Do’s:1. Consult a #DermatologistYou may see your skin change or become prone to sensitivity now. It is because of the surge in female hormones (#estrogen and #progesterone). And there is no harm in continuing a #SkincareRegime for yourself. But some ingredients are regarded as unsafe or not tested for and deemed safe in pregnancy, as the skin absorbs them and may affect your baby’s growth. It is best to consider visiting a dermatologist if you face any skin issues while expecting.2. Sunscreen is Your Best Friend#DarkSpots, #melasma, and dull skin are usual when you are pregnant. Applying a suitable #sunscreen of #SPF 15 or above may help you combat these problems and also help you deal with sun sensitivity. Sun protection is also the most important thing you can use as anti-wrinkle and skin #cancer protection in the long term.3. Include Vitamin CIt is an excellent #antioxidant and is considered safe during #pregnancy. #VitaminC helps with tissue repair, heals, and keeps your skin healthy and glowing. It also reduces traces of hyperpigmentation and dark spots caused by melasma.4. Less Is More for #SkincareRoutineHormonal fluctuations during pregnancy can result in #breakouts and oily skin for many women. It is safe to say- When in doubt, stick to a simple routine. Always follow the thumb rule “Less is more,” especially when it comes to skincare during pregnancy. There is a comprehensive list of unsafe pregnancy skincare ingredients that you must avoid, including Lactic acid, glycolic acid, #niacinamide, #HyaluronicAcid, azelaic acid, and L ascorbic acid.~ HydrateIt goes without saying; water intake can treat almost every skin concern to an extent. As water encompasses roughly 60 percent of our body, it is vital to be well-hydrated. People with combination or oily skin tend to survive on minimal moisturization because they feel they do not need to. But it is time to switch it up. In pregnancy, even combination skin becomes flaky and dries up, so there should be no compromise on hydration. For that, you can use moisturizing creams to do the job. Try more natural nut butter like shea butter, cocoa butter, and oils like jojoba oil and avocado oil.For more information, please call #WomanzHealth on ph +91 9871717305 or click on the website linkhttps://lnkd.in/gFyjtst

EFFECTS OF WEARING HEALS DURING PREGNANCYby Gold UdeoguWearing heels during pregnancy is a topic of interest and concern for many expectant mothers. High heels, while fashionable, can pose several risks and discomforts for pregnant women. Here's an overview of the potential effects:1. Balance and Stability Issues - Center of Gravity Shift: Pregnancy naturally shifts a woman's center of gravity forward due to the growing belly. Wearing heels exacerbates this shift, making it harder to maintain balance. - Risk of Falls: The altered center of gravity, combined with the instability of heels, increases the risk of tripping or falling, which can be dangerous for both the mother and the baby.2. Back and Joint Pain - Increased Strain: High heels force the body into an unnatural posture, putting additional strain on the lower back, knees, and ankles. Pregnant women already experience increased pressure on their backs and joints due to weight gain and hormonal changes. - Postural Changes: Wearing heels can worsen lordosis (excessive inward curve of the spine), leading to severe back pain.3. Swelling and Circulation Problems - Edema: Pregnancy often leads to swelling (edema) in the feet and ankles. Heels can restrict circulation and exacerbate this swelling, causing discomfort. - Varicose Veins: Poor circulation from wearing heels can contribute to the development or worsening of varicose veins, which are common during pregnancy.4. Calf Muscle Cramps - Muscle Contraction: High heels keep calf muscles in a shortened position, which can lead to muscle cramps and discomfort, particularly during pregnancy when muscles are already under stress. Recommendations for Pregnant Women1. Opt for Comfortable Footwear - Choose shoes with low, wide heels or flat shoes that provide good arch support and cushioning. Look for shoes with a comfortable, roomy toe box to accommodate any swelling.2. Limit Heel Height - If wearing
